Fosterful

Challenge

A nonprofit serving children during critical foster care transitions received feedback that its organization’s name was confusing and questioned the need for a rebrand.

Outcomes

Through a brand discovery workshop, the nonprofit’s board was able to reflect and align on their target audiences' perspectives, and the ways their brand marketing needed to pivot or evolve to connect with their consumer base. With unanimous board approval, we successfully renamed and rebranded this organization across all brand touchpoints. We even applied their new identity to a beer label design for a fundraising collaboration with Brother’s Cascadia Brewing.

Brand Strategy & Renaming

Through a brand strategy workshop, the board viewed their organization from a front-stage perspective. The outcome revealed that their existing name, Office Moms & Dads, implied a daycare for working parents, while in reality, the organization coordinated on-call volunteers to keep kids company at welfare offices. The new name, Fosterful, creates an adjective for the work of the organization: a community of volunteers, providing light in the darkness of foster care transitions.

Brand Identity

We developed a brand identity that is all about bringing light to a serious matter and hope to dark times. The use of serious greys, dark teal, and black represent the severity of the service need, while white and yellow bring in a compassionate and uplighting balance. As a nod to the original wordmark, we utilized a slab serif with rounded terminals that brought in the school typewriter character representative of the innocence of childhood that Fosterful helps to protect. 

Web design and development

We moved Fosterful off of Wordpress and onto Gatsby for fast, flexible and headless deployment. With the integration of Contentful as the content management system, Fosterful is now able to easily make content updates with a user-friendly platform.

Beer label design

We worked against a short timeline to complete Fosterful’s rebrand applications in time for their annual conference and summer fundraiser. Moving quickly allowed us to apply the new brand to Fosterful’s beer fundraising partnership with Brothers Cascadia Brewing.

About Fosterful

Fosterful is a community of qualified volunteers partnering with Social Workers and Foster Caregivers to provide a nurturing environment and a caring companion to children experiencing foster care. Fosterful volunteers keep children occupied and safe, acting as caring companions and sidekicks when it's needed most, through quality child care, both in the foster home and, in the child welfare office.
