Mapping insight-based user experiences for KinectAir; a private air travel platform
Experience & Growth Strategy
In the early stage of market validation, KinectAir needed an experience strategy for its web app that could connect private airplane riders with contracted pilots. The goal was to translate the service offering into an easy-to-understand and seamless experience for KinectAir’s ideal customer.

Challenge
While U.S. consumers were widely familiar with sharing economy platforms like Uber for car rides and Airbnb for travel lodging, the idea of hailing a private jet was foreign. With the minimum viable service in the market, KinectAir needed to grow its rider base through increased awareness. They needed to answer:
Who would use this service?
What do they care about?
How would they want to engage?
Insight
Without market scale, KinectAir flights remained extremely expensive. While the goal was to make private flight accessible to the mass market, it wouldn’t be feasible until a high-end market was secured first. The more riders they attained, the less each flight would cost. The initial target demographic needed to be ultra-high-net-worth individuals who travel frequently for business and leisure, and pilots with existing private charter businesses.
Consumer personas brought these users to life with the background stories, key questions, and core values that illuminated what they needed from KinectAir experiences.
